NaTasha Yvette Williams returns to the long-running Broadway revival of Chicago, once again stepping into the role of Matron “Mama” Morton. Williams, who returned to Wilmington this summer to take on the role of Mama Rose in the Opera House Theatre Company production of Gypsy, is no stranger to the Cook County Jail. She first took on Mama Morton on Broadway in 2014 and has returned to the role several times over the years.
A Tony Award nominee and Grammy winner for her performance as Sweet Sue in Some Like It Hot, Williams boasts an impressive Broadway résumé that also includes Wicked, Waitress, Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, Chicken & Biscuits, The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess and The Color Purple.
Williams won’t be the only familiar face returning to the cell block September 7. Red Concepción will once again play Amos Hart. They join a company featuring Reece Weaver as Roxie Hart, Lissa deGuzman as Velma Kelly, Max von Essen as Billy Flynn and J. Workman as Mary Sunshine.
Williams’ return comes as Chicago approaches another major milestone: the Tony-winning revival celebrates its 30th anniversary on Broadway this November.
