Violet, a young North Carolina mountain woman, suffered an accident as a girl that left her face permanently disfigured. She embarks on a bus trip across the deep south in 1964 in pursuit of a miracle: the healing touch of a TV evangelist. Along the way, she meets two soldiers who can see past her scar to her inner beauty and vie for her affections.
