Ep. 103: Antoine L. Smith Talks MEMPHIS to MJ

Antoine L. Smith made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning musical Memphis. Since then, he has been in Miss Saigon, Carousel, and even won an Emmy Award for The Color Purple revival.  Smith was supposed to star in the North Carolina Theatre production of Memphis and was in rehearsal when theaters shut down last year. I interviewed him in advance of that production and our conversation then feels even more timely and relevant now. Listen to our conversation about Memphis, industry-wide systemic change that we didn’t know then might be on the horizon, and what is next.

Watch my Instagram Live video with Smith (recorded in March 2020).
