Occupy the Stage: The Women’s Theatre Festival has been a forerunner in producing both virtual and accessible programs since the pandemic shut down theaters last March. This weekend, WTF presents its annual staged reading 48-hour marathon of previously unproduced plays by women and all marginalized genders. The virtual readings began Friday morning (November 6th) and continue through the wee hours of the morning Monday. Tickets for the entire weekend of shows begin at $40. Balloonacy: Raleigh Little Theatre’s production of Barry Kornhauser’s one-hander play Balloonacy ushers in a new era of socially distanced, in-person shows in the Stephenson Amphitheatre at the Raleigh Rose Garden. Seating is limited and masks are required to comply with North Carolina’s Phase 3 guidelines for smaller outdoor entertainment venues. Leading Ladies: Theatre Raleigh welcomes patrons into its new North Raleigh space this Saturday night (November 7th). Leading Ladies, featuring performances by Faith Jones, Blaire Thompson & Austenne Grey, marks the first of three hybrid concerts, which will be simultaneously performed in front of a live audience and live-streamed online. Tickets start at $20 and are available on Theatre Raleigh’s website.
Argo: This new adaptation of Jason and the Argonauts just might be University Theatre’s most ambitious virtual venture yet. The maiden voyage of Argo will be hosted by Rachel Klem and Laura Parker and sets sail Saturday, November 7th, at 7:30 PM via Zoom and Facebook Live. Cabaret Under the Stars: Cape Fear Regional Theatre has extended its run of this cabaret-style concert through this weekend. Featuring songs from movie musicals, performed by Greg King, Ayanna Washington, and Marc de la Concha, this show is being presented outside at Haymount Auto Repair. Tickets start at $21 and are available online.
The Storyteller: Playmakers’ Producing Artistic Director Vivienne Benesch directs this rehearsed staged reading of Sara Jean Accuardi’s award-winning play. Featuring performances by Jeffrey Blair Cornell, Ray Dooley, and Kathryn Hunter-Williams, this reading will be available to stream on-demand starting Monday, November 9th, for one week only. Shadows: The Justice Theater Project presents a filmed version of Jerry Sipp’s homage to Scotland’s native son Robert Louis Stevenson. Stevenson was a prolific writer who penned such classics as Treasure Island and the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
