The Band’s Visit Re-Launches its National Tour at the Durham Performing Arts Center
It’s been 571 days since the last Broadway show closed at Durham Performing Arts Center. But that all changes this week as the Tony Award-winning musical The Band’s Visit resumes its national tour.
Based on a film of the same name, The Band’s Visit is about an Egyptian band showing up in a barren desert town by mistake. Here the locals welcome them in and over the course of an evening, strangers connect with one another and make some life-changing discoveries.
Led with excellence by Janet Dacal and Sasson Gabay, who reprises his role from the film version, the show provides an intimate theatrical experience that is both beautiful and poetic in its simplicity.
There is no spectacle here (aside from a single disco ball onstage). But there is David Yazbek’s music and a sweet message about the power of love and community that will linger in the hearts of theater lovers long after their short stay in Bet Hatikva.
The Band’s Visit runs through Sunday in Durham. For more information visit https://www.dpacnc.com/.
