Ep. 105: A Spoonful of Music and Optimism with Robert J. Sherman
When you talk about a musical dynasty, it doesn’t get much grander than the Sherman family. For over a century, members of this family have produced popular music that has entered our collective consciousness. In fact, Robert B. Sherman and his brother Richard became one of the most prolific songwriting teams in motion picture history, writing songs for films like Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and The Parent Trap. Robert J. Sherman, a celebrated producer and songwriter in his own right, says that much like his father Robert, he cares deeply about the past, but has his eyes firmly planted on the future, which is why he is building on the Sherman family legacy portfolio to launch a new company, Sherman Theatrical Entertainment. This new venture will focus on producing new work, as well as bringing some of The Sherman Brothers’ work to stage and streaming platforms.
Hear what Robert J. Sherman has to say to Beltline to Broadway about his family’s legacy and this new venture.
