Ep 87: Musicals, Mindfulness, and Coloring Broadway
If you have followed this podcast or listened to some of live chats, you may have heard me say that theater is my sanctuary. In my day-to-day life I, like so many of you, wear many hats and always find myself multi-tasking. But when I go to the theater, it is one of the few times that I am still and fully present. And perhaps that is one of the reasons I miss live theater so much. So, what does that almost spiritual experience of going to the theater have to do with mindfulness and coloring? It turns out, quite a lot. In fact, for Coloring Broadway’s Andrea Koehler, who says she lives to create spaces for self-awareness and transformation, the connection between mindfulness musicals and coloring, just might have to do with the concept of flow. Hear what Koehler has to say to RDU on Stage about flow, mindfulness, and community.
Since the pandemic started, RDU on Stage has co-hosted a couple of virtual community coloring parties with our friends at Coloring Broadway. The next “party” is scheduled for February 10th. This is a free event but registration is required. For more information visit the Eventbrite event page.
About the Guest
Andrea Koehler is known by many names – That Coloring Lady, the Asker of Hard Questions, the Singer of Show Tunes – but, by far, her favorite is the Creator of Transformational Spaces.
She is on a mission to create a world where everyone knows how powerful they are and, to that end, she lives to create spaces for self-awareness and transformation.
As the founder of The Coloring Project and Coloring Broadway, she opens the backdoor to self-discovery using coloring as a tool for mindfulness, helping people quiet their inner critic so that they can access their inner “artist”, and sharing show tunes as a way express our emotions when words fail.
As a leadership coach and trainer, she will be kind and understanding, she will listen and reflect, AND she will ask you those “pointy” questions that make you want to flip her off but also make you think, ponder and step into your own power.
